Travis Stackow is a doctoral student in Cognitive, Social, and Developmental Psychology at The New School for Social Research. At The New School, Travis is a member of The Human Language and Development Lab (PI: Ruthe Foushee) as well as The Cognitive Psychology Lab (PI: William Hirst), and The Decolonial and Political Psychology Research Group (PI: Eduardo Javier Rivera Pichardo). Travis’ research explores the developmental trajectory of national identity by examining children’s narrative representations of history. Travis is particularly interested in the affective dimensions of national identity as well as the moral judgments contained in children’s written and verbal accounts of the historical past (e.g., freedom, inequality, progress). Children’s talk about the historical past provides an unique vantage point to view memory and imagination as interconnected psychological processes.
